Toy Story 4 review

Toy story is the 4th part in the animated Disney Pixar series started in 1995. To say this film brought back all of the nostalgia from my child hood would only be a slight exaggeration. The original voice actors for not only Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen) came back again but also Bo Peep (Annie Potts) which I personally think is incredible.

From watching you could tell they were adamant on staying true to the original source material which made me so happy, it was most defiantly a classic Toy Story narrative, keeping the importance of the kids at the forefront, while also being fresh and a new experience with new characters and new themes.

The classic characters are still amazing and hilarious with new jokes especially from Buzz who had me laughing the whole way through. I also enjoyed the return of Bo Peep as I'd always wondered what had happened to her and where she had ended up, seeing her as a bad ass female was amazing and I think exactly what we need in children's films.

New characters like Forky (voiced by Tony Hale), Duke Caboom (voiced by Keanu Reeves!) and Giggle McDimples (voiced by Ally Maki) added a whole new element to the film, being some of the funniest characters as we explored their personalities. Especially Forky who represented Millennial/ Gen Z humour about being trash for example which audiences my age would be able to relate to more and find even funnier.

The animation was beautiful, which was to be expected, but I was still blown away with the amount of detail the whole way through and how realistic thing looked while still being an animation style. I wished that they went back to classic Toy Story where things were only shown waist down to represent the child POV and didn't show faces but I understand why they did it and how it's more appealing to the new generation as they may not understand the significance of the aesthetic choice.

The ending was so cute and I was really happy with the way things played out, especially as Woody and Bo were helping even more toys in the post credit scene. I would have liked to see more from the new characters but I think there was enough for the film and the arc.

Overall this is a nostalgic hit in the chest that I think you should watch but most defiantly if you watched the other ones as a child and remember how amazing they were. It's consistently funny and great fun for litterly all ages.
